ATTACHMENT STYLES AND HOW THEY AFFECT RELATIONSHIPS

The overall purpose of this research paper is to discuss and assess attachment styles (i.e. relationships) and how they affect relationships. Attachment styles may assume any guise such as anxiety, ambivalence, security, etc. The later, for example, will often reflect less disclosure on the part of the individual, while anxiety and ambivalence will usually result in more disclosure. These are important, in the view of this author, because they have implications for relationships, as well as their longevity and stability - - which in turn, have other implications as shall be discussed throughout this research paper. For example, attachment patters on intimate relationships have direct implications for parenting styles and childhood. For example, one author suggests that parental behavior characteristics of authoritative, authoritarian and permissive parenting styles seem to parallel the parental behavior connected with secure, avoidant and ambivalent attachment styles.
