A Discussion and AnalysisOf Fatal Attraction Relationships in William Shakespeare's Play Romeo and Juliet and in West Side Story by Kate Marler
The purpose of this discussion is to identify and analyze specific relationships as reflected in William Shakespeare's particularly well-known play, Romeo and Juliet. The pairs, or couples, which I shall assess are Romeo and Juliet and Maria and Tony in West Side Story. These couples reflect certain trials and tribulations as well as complications and resolutions. Probably the most famous of these is Romeo and Julio. Basically, Romeo was the son of the Montague family, while Juliet was the daughter of the Capulet family. These two fell in love, which, as their families were feuding, created a serious dilemma for the two. Ultimately, it was resolved by their both committing suicide. This tragedy was set within the context of a larger backdrop which was the feuding Capulets and Montagues, which made it impossible for the couple to enjoy any possibility of ultimate happiness (Renald, 1992, p. 34) In both cases, the plays reveal a sense of unrequited love, with the encumbrance manifesting...
