A Discussion and Analysis of Correctional Institutions and Their Mandatory Compliance with ‘Americans With Disabilities Act”
Indeed, the U.S. Supreme Court has recently ruled that Correctional Institutions must comply with the American’s With Disabilities Act in relation to disabled inmates. Exactly how they comply, however, represents ‘the’ area of controversy. For example, state officials deliberately hid crucial information about a group of disable inmates who sued Colorado over prison conditions, an angry federal judge ruled Friday. The six inmates sued the state in 1992 alleging Colorado prisons did not comply with the Federal American’s With Disabilities Act and Rehabilitation Act. The state denied the inmates allegations, all the while secretly planning too spend more than $2 million bringing prisons into ADA compliance. Attorney Paula Greison told Denver District Court Edward Nottingham. Greison accused the state of hiding the information to avoid admitting liability in the lawsuit.
