To the largest extent, the article in question deals with didactic criticism, controversial, yet constructive, as it may be, or is it? The author devotes much of the article to the writing welfare of the children, this I believe is admirable. However, it is not without its controversies. Traditionally, we have always been taught that reading, writing, arithmetic are the staples of any education. Indeed, I believe that literacy, ie, reading and writing correctly, is all important. Especially in this age of computerization, one needs to be especially literate. At one point in the article, the author identifies the “spell-check” as a point of criticism (I shall elaborate subsequently), and there is a greater good in the teaching of writing. Similarly, the author, within an exercise as presented challenges the very tenets of educators, and criticizes that which is didactic.
The author largely concerns himself with writing, and writing substance. It is this very substance, which should take precedence over other “minor” aspects of writing. So what if an individual makes mistakes in his or her spelling, or grammar, etcetera? Is what the...
