American Society

Number of Pages 3

In a paper of three pages, the author considers the nature of the American society in relation to cultural diversity. Though the United States is constantly expanding in relation to immigration and ethnic or racial diversity, the country is actually an assimilationist society, one that focuses on the ability of subcultures to embrace a set of dominant cultural norms. The structure of the dominant culture, including its embeddedness in our national values, laws, and system of governance, is based on assimilation, rather than pluralism. There are two sources listed.
