Macomb County, Michigan - The Effects of Urban Sprawl

Number of Pages 20

This 20 page paper considers some of the effects of urban sprawl on a Detroit suburban area. The writer considers the effect from several perspectives including large developers, government officials, residents and local environmental groups. Oddly, all these diverse groups seem to agree on basic principles, including stating that laws must be changed in order to stop the expansion of cities and highways outward from the center of Detroit. The writer reveals that Michigan does not have a cohesive land use policy, meaning that each jurisdiction is responsible for its own decisions regarding land use. Developers are prevented by strict zoning regulations from being able to revitalize decaying downtown areas, which in turn forces them outward to remain in business. There are 20 sources listed in the bibliography.
