Although Paul Laurence Dunbar was born nearly a century after Wheatley's death, the two authors share common traits other than their race. Phillis Wheatley is usually considered to be the first black American poet but Dunbar was the first black American poet that was widely read and sold. This paper compares their similarities and differences of the two authors. This paper has ten pages and five sources in the bibliography.
