The National Railroad Passenger Corporation

Number of Pages 5

The Inspector General for the National Railroad Passenger Corporation is a separate and independent organization. Its purpose is to provide oversight to Amtrak's operations and to detect fraud, waste, and abuse. It does so through investigations, audits, and evaluations. It also makes recommendations based on what it finds. This essay explains the mission and goals of the unit, to explain why it will not give work related to ongoing audits to anyone, and why the IG's truthful comments to the press were appropriate. There are two sources used in this five page paper.
