America was attacked on September 11, 2001. The many American agencies that gather and analyze intelligence had missed the cues. While Americans were stunned, the rest of the world was shocked. A number of laws were passed almost immediately. Among other things, these laws established a new Cabinet-level department in the federal government, the Department of Homeland Security. This essay discusses the need for interagency cooperation and coordination to keep our homeland safe. It reports how effective criminal justice system has been in obtaining invaluable information. Other public agencies are also involved in this effort and are discussed. There are four sources listed in the bibliography of this four page paper.
