Place Theory of Hearing

Number of Pages 3

A great deal of knowledge is gained by accident. In this case, a friend asked a scientist if the quality of telephone equipment would ever improve. Georg von Bekesy was studying how to adapt the mechanical and electronic telephone equipment to the human ear. The question led von Bekesy on a quest to learn how the human cochlea works and how and where it perceives pitch. This would lead to the traveling waves theory for which he won the Nobel Prize in 1961. There are two sources listed in the bibliography of this three page paper.
