Anyone working in any area of mental health or social services faces ethical challenges and dilemmas on a regular basis and it is not always easy to categorize the issue or to select the correct action to follow. Two real ethical issues that social workers faced are reported in this essay. The paper reports the actions of each social worker, how the actions violated the NASW code of ethics, and what they should have done. The paper then explains two ethical theories, utilitarianism of Kohlberg's stages and applies them to the actions of the social workers.
