This 5 page paper argues that Thucydides' history of the Peloponnesian War states that the reason for the conflict was the political tension between Athens and Sparta; and in particular, the conflict between Corinth and Corcyra. Athens sided with Corcyra and Corinth allied with Sparta. Economic problems exacerbated the conflict.
