Voices of Black Authors in America

Number of Pages 14

In fourteen pages the reasons why black authors of the 18th and 19th centuries had difficulty in discussing their experiences are considered with the observation that slave narratives such as those of Frederick Douglass were presented less out of self preservaton than they were to write for white readers. Six primary sources and ten secondary sources are listed in the bibliography.
