  • Sharek, et al (2004)/Low-Income Kids with Asthma

A 4 page article critique that examines a study by Sharek, et al (2004), which looked at data concerning asthma disease management in children. While asthma is the most common chronic childhood disease, there is currently “no validated ‘gold standard’ for measuring’ asthma outcomes (Sharek, et al, 2004, p. 797). • Concept Analysis: Aging

A 20 page research paper that offers a nursing concept analysis on aging. As the percentage of the American population that is over the age of 65 increases with each passing year, there is more and more attention being paid to geriatric health care needs; and, in keeping with this trend, successful aging is a concept that is also garnering more attention. The importance of geriatric health care issues underlies the need to understand the concept of aging more fully and to describe in detail the differences that are inherent to successful/healthy aging as opposed to maladaptive aging (Flood, 2002). This concept analysis of aging endeavors to accomplish this purpose, as it describes how literature addresses the aging process and its implications. Bibliography lists 26 sources.

  • Youth Violence In The United States

20 pages in length. Hands-on parenting has gone the way of the horse and buggy; no longer are kids raised in stable, functional families with an original mother and father but are shuffled into preschool, watched by nannies or babysitters and taught everything they (supposedly) need to know about life from mind-numbing influence of television and video games. Portrayals of solid, interactive family life in such programs as The Brady Bunch and Father Knows Best draw chuckles from contemporary generations for their silly, far-fetched impression of what family life has come to represent, only these portrayals are just as accurate for their era as shows like Roseanne and Married With Children are now where kids are disrespectful, rude, self-centered and lacking any social responsibility, which represents just the tip of the iceberg in a society where proper parenting has become a thing of the past. Detachment of this extent can reach epic proportions when mentally/emotionally unstable American kids grow into adolescents who have crossed over into violent behavior. Bibliography lists 17 sources.

  • U.S. Health Care System

A 3 page research paper that discusses the American system. According to an online dictionary, www.businessdictionary.com, a "health care system" is defined as a "Complex of facilities, organizations, and trained personnel engaged in providing health care within a geographical area." If one considers only this extremely broad definition of a "health care system," then, yes, the manner in which health care is delivered in the U.S. is a "system." However, there are scholars who express an evaluation of the way that health care delivery functions in the US that is so negative that one can also easily make the argument that the delivery of health care in America is too dysfunctional to be considered to be a "system," as the term "system" implies organization and comprehensive service. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
