This research paper compares and contrasts the 1968 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet directed by Frano Zeffirelli and the 1996 version, which as directed by Baz Luhmann. The writer argues that the 1996 version, despite the fact that it faithful conveys Shakespearean dialogue, departs drastically from the source material due to the presentation and, therefore, is hardly an adaptation of the play at all.
