Number of Pages 3

As people grow older they tend to develop multiple physical illnesses and sometimes, mental illnesses or mental health problems. The outcome is that they often take multiple medications for the same problems. This paper presents a proposal to reduce the number of psychotropic medications taken by the elderly in a rural psychiatric clinic. The paper reports the prevalence of psychiatric polypharmacy among the elderly, a review of the literature, and the intervention plan that includes the use of EMRs. There are three sources listed in the bibliography of this three page paper.
