The British Parliament levied taxes on the Colonists but the colonists did not believe they were represented in the Parliament, therefore, they should not have taxes levied. One tax led to petitions from both the colonists and the London merchants. That was the Stamp Act. This essay discusses how the phrase came about, what it meant, and the petitions. There are four sources listed in the bibliography of this five page paper.
